Haha. The first feminist march was also funny, some participants threw Timbits at the GARDA windows.

You like Lovely Complex? It’s one of my favourites! Mostly the manga though.
I feel like I should start feministanime if that doesn’t exist yet. But I feel more awkward critiquing things from other cultures than my own. Hmm. That said there is a lot of sexism in anime. And anime is a really broad topic. I could focus on a studio or something I guess.

White privilege is never having to be assumed by others that you are not American solely because of your race.

This happened to me at my job a few months ago by this older white couple -___-

Happens in Canada too! Part of the reason the new security guards on campus didn’t last long was because of racist incidents, one of which involved them telling a POC who had grown up here (and had the accent to prove it) that he ought to go back to his own country.

The guy’s response? “What country do you think that is?”

I’m pretty sure there was a trans* woman on there before but she didn’t get all that far.

Check out the review video and then shop around our online store!

Okay I am going to say this as nicely as possible.

Using the military - ooo super macho sugoi yeah - machismo thing is really a buzz kill.

It’s really enforcing gender norms and the idea that a “REAL MAN wants to be SUPER MASCULINE and just as good as cis men and the BEST CIS MEN MUST OF COURSE BE FROM THE MILITARY RIIIIIGHT?!?!”

Yeah f militarized masculinity, half the time it makes dudes act like douches. Cis or trans, we can be better than that.

The fish fingers that weren’t fish fingers.

From the video “Step into the Home of Doctor Who”

Noooooooo! I mean I’m vegetarian and I’d really rather people didn’t eat meat and stuff… but somehow I still feel betrayed. Lied to. :(

I think that makes me weird.

Things no one tells you:
Having sex doesn’t make you a whore.
Not having sex doesn’t make you a saint.
You don’t have to have kids if you don’t want to.
You are the only person who has rights over your body.
You are no one to judge others.
“Femininity” is not anti-feminist.
Verbal harassment is not flattery.
If something makes you uncomfortable, you don’t have to endure it.
You don’t deserve abuse (I think -femstud)
You don’t owe anything to anyone.

Added a translation. My Spanish is not as bad as I thought, I understood most of that.

Nazi comparisons are not helpful

Lately a lot of protestors have been chanting ‘SSPVM, police politique!’ (SSPVM, political police… they’re actually just the SPVM) and doing a Nazi salute and today people were apparently handing out flyers with a swastika in SPVM colours and the acronym SSPVM.

This is not helpful.

Yes, the SPVM has cracked down massively on student protests (over 500 arrests for illegal assembly just a few nights ago). Yes there has been police violence. Yes the new anti-mask rule and Law 78 are oppressive and target political dissenters, especially student strikers. Yes the police (SQ, SPVM, SPVQ etc.) serves the interests of the rich and of the government. Yes there have been reports of racist and xenophobic slurs uttered by police officers.

No, none of these police forces are Nazis, nor are they SS, nor are they even all that much like Nazis. So far (let’s cross our fingers that it stays this way) although some protestors have been injured, none have died. There are prisons, but no internment camps, and most of those arrested have been released within a couple of days if not less. Although there is systematic racism, it is not on the same scale.

At best, these comparisons are wide of the mark. At worst they are deeply problematic and disrespectful of survivors of actual Nazi violence (it’s worth remembering that Montreal has the second largest Jewish population of any Canadian city). Some have even said that such comparisons are anti-Semitic.

So think before you start making these comparisons.
